Nicolás’ work is distinguished not only by its quality but also by the way he experiments with several styles, methods or subjects. His work can be divided into: drawing, painting, and photography.
Photography
Due to the limited development of photography in Spain during the 20’s and the absence of schools, young artists had to teach themselves by means of art and cinema journals, which had become widespread after the 1st World War.
The young Nicolás was fascinated by German expressionist cinema with its lights and shadows. He tried to enhance the textures of the objects and used his brothers as models.
Nicolás placed the same value on his photos as on his drawings and oils. In 1932, he presented an exhibition with more photos than work in any other medium.
